2011 Leadership Fellows

Stymetra Conley, an Honor Graduate from Conway High School in Conway, Arkansas, is the second oldest of seven children. She had numerous accomplishments while in high school such as being inducted into the National Honor Society and as a part the Conway High School Track team, where she currently holds the record in triple jump. She was also a part of the school’s 2008 Meet of Champs relay track team.  Stymetra also contributed to the Conway High 2007 7A Girls State Runner-Up and 2008 7A Girls State Basketball Championship teams.

Currently, Stymetra is a junior at the University of Arkansas.  Enrolled in the University’s Sam M. Walton College of Business Honors Program, she is majoring in Finance- Banking and Institutions, and minors in Economics and Business Spanish. On campus, Stymetra has partaken in multiple organizations, leadership, and mentoring programs. She currently holds a position as the Liaison of Diversity for the Associated Student Government and as the Treasurer for the Kappa Iota Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. While working as a part-time teller for Bank of America, Stymetra’s future goals are to attend the prestigious graduate program at the Sam Walton Business College and continue her career in the markets of Financial Institutions and Investments.

Daughter of Michael Mason and Teresa Robinson, Kanitria Mason is a junior Mass Communication major and Marketing minor at Dillard University. With a GPA of 3.9, Kanitria is a member of the Daniel C. Thompson/ Samuel Dubois Cook Honors Program, Black Ivy Couture Fashion Club, Investment Club, the secretary of Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, a TABASCO® intern, a featured personality and the programming director of the Dillard University radio station.  She also serves as the Ivy Leaf Reporter and the Membership Chairman of the Beta Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Kanitria's life motto is "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else". - Judy Gardland  Upon graduation Kanitria wishes to obtain a doctorate in Journalism or Marketing. Kanitria aspires to be a journalist or personality for a major broadcasting network, an entrepreneur, and a humanitarian.

Soror Bridget D. Sisney, a Jackson, MS native, is a junior at Dillard University and a Thompson/Samuel DuBois Cook Honors Program student.  A Biology/Pre-Med Major and Chemistry Minor, with aspirations of becoming a Pediatric Geneticist, she was chosen to be a 2011 Winter Leadership Fellow.  This program exposes undergraduates to leadership and management training.

 

Soror Bridget has earned a minimum 3.5 GPA since her freshman year.  In addition, she remains actively involved in several activities that include: Parliamentarian of Minority Association of Pre-medical Students (MAPS); DU Ambassador; Social Service Project Coordinator for Melton Foundation; Lina H. McCord Ambassador; member of Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society; co-director of DU VisionQuest Liturgical Dance Company; member of Thompson/Samuel DuBois Cook Honors Program; member of DU Diamond Dance Team; Math tutor for DU Upward Bound; Beta Upsilon Chapter delegate for DU National Pan-Hellenic Council; Chaplain and Grammateus for Beta Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.; Biology/Chemistry/Math tutor for Urban league of New Orleans College Track.  Soror Bridget received the following awards:  University Dean’s List (Fall 2009, Spring 2010, Fall 2010, and Spring 2011) and a SUNY at Albany Research Program Recipient (Summer 2009 and 2010).

Nadia Monet Williams is a native of Shreveport, Louisiana.  She is a sophomore majoring in Accounting at Louisiana State University in Shreveport where she is a member of the Student Government Association, Epsilon Sigma Alpha, Student Activities Board and Phi Eta Sigma.  Nadia was initiated into Tau Epsilon Chapter at LSUS Spring 2011.  Upon graduation, Nadia plans to obtain a Master's degree and get involved with politics.

Soror Vanessa Norris, 2011 Summer Leadership Fellow

 

Soror Vanessa Norris, a Fort Worth native, is a junior at Texas Christian University and a TCU Community Scholar.  A Biochemistry/Pre-Med Major and Spanish Minor for Health Professions in the John V. Roach Honors College, she was chosen to be a 2011 Summer Leadership Fellow.  This program exposes undergraduates to leadership and management training.  The program also includes follow-up mentoring over a 12-month period.

 

Soror Vanessa maintained a 4.0 cumulative GPA during her freshman year.  Currently, she has a 3.787 cumulative GPA while participating in many activities.  Among her many activities are the following:  secretary of Kappa Lambda; TCU Community Scholar; TCU Ambassador; TCU Connections; TCU LEAPS Community Liaison; Vice President of TCU National Pan-Hellenic Council; TCU Chancellor’s Leadership Program; secretary of the Black Student Association; member of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society; member of Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Health Honor Society;  Biology/Chemistry tutor and TCU YMCA.  Soror Vanessa received the following awards:  College of Science and Engineering Dean’s List (Fall 2009 and Spring 2010); TCU Scholar Award (Fall 2009 and Spring 2010); TCU Ambassador of the Month (March, 2010); and Most Diverse TCU Ambassador (April, 2010).

Soror Liberty R. Bell, Cultured Pearl Award Recipient

Soror Liberty R. Bell, a Senior at Texas Christian University and past basileus of Kappa Lambda Chapter, received one of the first Cultured Pearl Awards during the 2011 Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.  This award, the idea of the Undergraduate Committee, was awarded for the first time to Undergraduate Sorors who excel academically but simultaneously go above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to leadership and service within and outside of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.  Recipients of this award must embody the true essence of an Alpha Kappa Alpha woman by demonstrating a high regard for ethical and moral standards.

 

Soror Liberty maintained a 3.80 cumulative GPA while serving as chapter president.  She was selected president of the year by the TCU Inclusiveness and Intercultural Services; had the highest ROTC GPA; and participated in and maintained offices in the ROTC and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.  She also participated in Frog Camp as a facilitator; on the Peer Discipline Board and as a TCU Connections mentor.

Congratulations to Soror Valandra German, South Central Region Evaluation Chairman.

 

We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Valandra German has accepted a tenure track faculty appointment at Dillard University as Assistant Professor of Public Health in the School of Public Health.  Additionally, she will hold the office of Interim Chair of the School of Public Health. Her appointment begins on January 3, 2011.  Valandra has been with the Department of Health Disparities Research for over three years.  Over these three years, Valandra has held the position of Senior Research Coordinator and Research Manager.
